La Grivelière has been, since the end of the 18th century, the scene of several agricultural speculations such as cocoa, coffee and achiote, which have made it famous. Witness to the plantation economy, in 1761 it was owned by the Jacobin Brothers and was called Caféière Saint-Joseph. She became, after knowing different owners, La Grivelière in 1843 with Auguste Périollat.
